A young boy is arrested by the U.S. Secret Service for writing a computer virus and is banned from using
a computer until his 18th birthday. Years later, he and his new-found friends discover a plot to unleash
a dangerous computer virus, but they must use their computer skills to find the evidence while being
pursued by the Secret Service and the evil computer genius behind the virus.

8-letni Dade Murphy wywołuje wielkie szkody na giełdzie i w bankach, wszystko dzięki napisanemu
przez siebie wirusowi. Jednak tym samym zostaje pozbawiony przez sąd dostępu do komputerów. Dalsze
jego losy poznajemy już jako nastolatka (Jonny Lee Miller), który po przeprowadzce do wielkiego
miasta, nie może się zaaklimatyzować. Do czasu gdy poznaje pewną dziewczynę - Kate Libby (Angelina Jolie),
dzięki swoim umiejętnościom w łamaniu wszelkich zabezpieczeń, postanawia przenieść się do tej samej
klasy co Ona. Podczas swoich "drobnych usprawnień w funkcjonowaniu szkoły", zostaje zauważony przez ludzi,
którzy zajmują się "hackowaniem". Niestety za wszelką cenę pragnie uzyskać poszanowanie u swoich kolegów,
co nie wychodzi na dobre nikomu.
